Last Sunday, a Liberian-flagged oil tanker, identified as Ali Najafov with a tonnage of 6,620 dwt and owned, according to shipping databases, by the Turkish company Palmali, collided with a mine in the Black Sea, near the Bystroe Canal, between Romania and Ukraine.

It was reported that the ship sustained damage to the starboard side and ballast tanks, but fortunately there were no injuries among the crew. According to Ambrey's safety consultants, the vessel entered Ukraine's territorial waters at around 08:00 hours, remaining adrift outside the Bystroe Channel. Finally, it entered the channel on Monday with the assistance of two tugboats coming from the port of Vylkove.

This incident marks the second case this month of a vessel affected by a floating mine near the Bystroe Channel. On October 6, a small Turkish-flagged freighter, the Kafkametler, struck a mine 0.2 nautical miles south of the latest incident.

This type of situation underscores the importance of evaluating and strengthening navigational safety measures, especially in areas where similar incidents have been reported recently.
